Dog Training FAQ's

  • Is my dog too young or too old?

Dogs should be least 5 months old to start training, but they are never too old begin.

  • Do you offer group classes?

All lessons are 1-on-1 for the most effective and custom approach.

  • How long are lessons?

1 hour, any longer is too much for one session for the dog.

  • Can we train 2 or more of my dogs at the same time?

While this is possible, it is not the most effective approach. Down the line, once each dog has an advanced level of obedience, this can be done.

  • How long should I train my dog each day?

Depending on the dog, roughly 1 hour per day, with no more than roughly 20-minute sessions.

  • My dog is reactive and/or aggressive. What's better to do; lessons or the Board and Train program?

Aggressive and reactive dogs take longer than the 2-week board and train program to really improve, so individual lessons are best for these types of dogs.

  • How long will my dog need to wear the e-collar?

Every dog is different, some a few months, some a few years, some the rest of their lives.  It also depends on your desired level of obedience.

  • Do you only train certain breeds or sizes of dogs?

Any breed and any age is accepted, as long as they are older than 5 months.

  • What if I’ve already done some basic training with my dog?

Each lesson is customized to each dog and owner, if you’re already through the basics then we can start into the harder lessons.

  • Is an e-collar painful to my dog?

Proper use of an e-collar is very important. Low-level stimulation has a calming effect while high levels can overwhelm the dog and should only be used in emergency situations. Our stimulation is similar to a medical device called a Muscle Stimulator used by doctors to re-educate muscles, relieve muscle spasms, increase range of motion, prevent muscle atrophy, and treat conditions resulting from a stroke. It leaves no marks or residual pain and promotes compliance through muscle control of the dog’s neck. Beware of imported shock collar systems that use high shocking circuitry and may cause your dog’s neck to jerk excessively, scare your dog and damage his/her psyche.

  • What do I need to bring to my first lesson?

Your dog, their collar, and their leash.
